Whether I'm bored or I'm lonely
When drug or drink won’t drop me down
Thoughts rush in that seem to own me
The tighter the leash the bigger the hound
And the sound of all my
Questions dashed like broken glass
I try but I can’t explain
I'm lying awake with how little I know
How much I obsess
How far it can go
And there's so much to do
So few words to say
To kill a wicked thing that I
Could never seem to chase away
I crave the stillness I remembered
The quiet confidence through gunshy eyes
Now I have teeth to tear and torn up I surrender
The way this goes, I’m bound
Still you don't know the sound of my
Questions dashed like broken glass
I try but I can’t explain
I'm lying awake with how little I know
How much I obsess
How far it can go
And there's so much to do
So few words to say
To kill a wicked thing that I
Could never seem to chase away
Brooklyn duo, Tiger Silko, Release Third Single May 2023
Cinematic, dream pop album inspired by space operas, tarot and Carl Sagan to follow
May 25th, 2023 (Brooklyn, NY) - The introspective, electro-pop release hypnotically journeys into the human mind, a garden of intrusive thoughts, obsessions and unanswered questions. Jaeggi’s intimate confessional begins in earnest simplicity, before being given weight and power by Wright’s lush bass/drum electronic production. Hound is a capricorn, an Eleusinian mystery, a fever dream of inexorable consciousness, an eremite, and the black dog’s pace.
What began as singer-songwriter Lisa Jaeggi lending vocals to Jonathon Wright’s independent film scores, developed into a collaboration to create a soundtrack for a non-existent film. Faced with the limitations imposed by scoring scenes that had already been shot, as well as budgets, producers and directors to contend with, the duo slowly began working a dreamy, sci-fi-inspired tracklist limited only by their imaginations.
On the songwriting side, Jaeggi takes much of the inspiration from astronomy, mythology, tarot, dreams, magic, the occult, the human condition, and space operas like Dune. All while incorporating personal themes like loss, regret, existential loneliness, intrusive thoughts, self-awareness and hedonism. To tell the stories through the lush arrangements, Wright turns to his eclectic love of opera, dance and cinematic inspirations, ranging from Mozart’s The Magic Flute to Johann Johannsson to Phillip Glass.
The song, as well as the entire album, was recorded and mixed in Wright’s home studio and is the culmination of nearly four years of crafting, polishing and reworking to tell the most compelling story. The balance of Jaeggi’s love of darker pop music (The Weeknd, Labrinth, Alt-J, Radiohead) and Wright’s more classic repertoire (Pink Floyd, Popol Vuh, David Shire, Kate Bush) results in a collection of hypnotic yet catchy songs that follow a fantastical journey across the album.
